KCLAS offers an undergraduate programme, which gives exposure to students in multiple disciplines while ensuring depth in their chosen domain . Students will have to earn 140 credits from Bharathiar University during their 3 years of study. The credit spread are as given below. The specific spread of credits will vary for each program of choice.
- Core courses: 45-58 credits
- Allied Courses: 13- 16 credits
- Elective Courses: 9-12 credits
- Skill based courses: 12-14 credits
- Language: 16-32 credits
- Interdisciplinary Courses: 10 credits
Core courses are mandatory disciplinary courses which offers indepth knowledge in the chosen domain. Students will have to earn 45-58 credits based on the enrolled program The courses are spread through I - VI semesters and credits to be earned in III- IV semester are higher as students get deeper into the domain. The core courses will theory and practicals and will be offered by the parent department The core courses will require intense learning practices - including lectures, projects, term papers and seminars.
Allied courses offer complementary knowledge and exposure to the domain knowledge gained through core courses. Students will have to earn 13- 16 credits, which will be offered in I - IV semesters of their program of study. In liberal arts education, allied courses broaden the understanding of core domain.
Electives are offered in V and VI semester. Students can choose electives based on their career/ future directions and their interest. The choice of course can be an advanced level of the chosen domain or from complementary disciplines.
Skill Based Courses
Skill based courses offered in I- VI semesters focus on building the professional skills of the students. Students will have to earn 12-14 credits. The courses include, Communicative English I and II, Computers in Communication Media, Business application software, Computer Applications, Soft skills for Business, Campus to Corporate, Web Designing, Life Skill Development, Personality Assessment and Advanced Tamil. The courses will embed theory and practicals and each course carries 3-4 credits
Language is fundamental to liberal arts education. Hence students can choose a language of interest. KCLAS offers on campus support in learning English, Tamil, Hindi, French and Malayalam. Students who wish to take course on self study mode can choose from Sanskrit, Arabic, Kannada or Telugu. The language courses will be offered in I - IV semesters and each course carries 4 credits
Students gain broader academic exposure through interdisciplinary courses and students will have to earn 10 credits. Courses offered include environmental Studies, Human Rights, Yoga for Human Excellence, Women's rights, Constitution of India, General Awareness and Community Volunteering.
