The Department of Social Work, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science organized a Workshop on Enhancing Client – Case Worker Relationship, for the 1st year MSW students on 10th October 2019. Ms. Seema Ramamurthy, Programme Associate, Center for Leadership, Empowerment & Development, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore was the resource person for this workshop. Dr. Emmanuel Daniel, Faculty, Department of Social Work, was the coordinator for this workshop.
Ms. Berlin Dorcas, 1st MSW, initiated the workshop by welcoming the gathering, followed by a brief introduction of the guest by Ms. Dhanalakshmi, 1st MSW. Dr. Emmanuel gave an overview about the workshop and narrated a story to encourage students for an active participation.
The Resource person started the session by asking the students the key differences and similarities between social case work and counselling. She gave the students a comprehensive idea on the screening process in social case work and how the client and his/her problems are identified. She briefed about the principles of social case work and how it can be applicable in handling client, the skills and values a social case worker should be aware of and practice.
The session geared up with an activity where two students of MSW and BSc Psychology each were made to present a role play. Scenario: Counsellor and Client (Problem: Alcohol Addict). Then a small brainstorming was done based on the activity and the resource person gave her feedback and also shared the Do’s and Don’ts of a professional counsellor/ clinical case worker. She also shared with the students some related careers after graduation. The session concluded with the resource person sharing some insights on World Mental Health Day, tips to identify a person with mental illness and how one can improve their own mental health aspect as well. The students also gave their feedback and the workshop came to close with the vote of thanks by Ms. Karthicka, 1st MSW.
