Department of Mathematics organised a workshop titled,‘Data Analytics using R Programming’ on 04th March ,2020 from 9.00 am to 4.30pm at Lecture Hall 1,KCLAS. The session holders were eminent professors – Dr.Dhivya, Dr.Anitha, Dr. Vijeta Iyer, Dr. Thilagavathy, Department of Science and Humanities (Mathematics), Kumaraguru College of Technology. Students from various Institutions were the participants of the event who made the session so interactive with their active participation. The session started at 9.30 am with the welcome address by Ms.Rithika.C of I BSc Mathematics, KCLAS.
In the first session introduction of the R programming language and its inevitable importance in research, data analytics and decision making were discussed. It was explained clearly that all of these along with data storage required R programming due to its open access, interactive nature, features to interpret graphs and find missing values and its strong community for consistently making improvements in the domain of data analytics. Above all, its versatility in the field of statistics, and machine learning made it so resounding and extremely important. The first session ended at 11.00 am and the second one started at 11.15 am. The second session was about using R programming for the Calculation of Mean, Median, Mode, Standard Deviation, Formulation of Pie chart and Bar chart and, finding correlation and regression between given set of values.
The third session dealt with five number summary, Box plot, Extracting data from excel, testing of hypothesis using t , F and Z tests. Few real world problems like healthcare data, were discussed for which hypothesis was tested and the participants practised finding the inference out of it. The workshop thus gave an insight into the R Language, which is highly useful in qualitative and quantitative data analytics, decision making and research. The workshop taught the participants to install, configure and execute programmes in the R software. All participants gained hands on training with the software and with the trendsetting and important program as a self learning based software training activity. Twenty participants from seven different colleges, viz., PSGCAS, PSNA, KCT, Avinashilingam University, CIT, Vivekananda College and KCLAS participated in the workshop. The session concluded with thanks by Ms. Snehaa. K of I BSc Mathematics, KCLAS spelling the words of gratitude for everyone behind the event.
