Orientation visit to “Udhavum Karangal” - Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts & Science (KCLAS)

The Department of Social Work, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science organized an orientation visit to “Udavum Karangal” for the 1st year MSW Students on 21st August, 2019. Udavum Karangal was established in 1983, the organization provides individual services – treatment, care, rehabilitation, education and community services. Dr. Emmanuel Daniel, Assistant Professor of Social Work guided and accompanied the students for this orientation visit.

Ms. Saranya, Project Coordinator, Udavum Karangal, briefed us about the organization, its history and various projects in the Coimbatore branch such as, Shakti Vanam, Thanjam, Parivarthan, Vimokshana, Sontham. The session was followed by a meaningful discussion in which students had questions and got to know more about their challenges and upcoming projects.

The students had an opportunity to spend quality time with the inmates of Thanjam home (female psychiatry division) and also visited a small exhibition were some handmade items made by the inmates. Dr. Emmanuel Daniel acknowledged the Project Officer and the support staff for their compassionate service.
