The Department of Social Work of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) organized an orientation visit to “Saaraathy Pammac for the 1st year Master of Social Work Students on 7th August, 2019. Saarathy Pammac is a Parents Association for persons with Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities, Autism and Cerebral Palsy. Their primary focus is taking care of people, facilitating trainings, Employment and Empowerment of people who are mentally retarded and related areas.
Saarathy Pammac was established in October 12, 2000. Dr. Kalpana Prakash, Assistant Professor of Social Work guided and accompanied the students in this orientation visit. Mr. Samarasapandian. S, Trustee, Saarathy Pammac gave an overview about the organization followed by Mrs. Usha, President, Saarathy Pammac also interacted with the students.
Then the students were taken to the vocational training unit where the trustee’s and employees showed and explained the students their various working spaces where they make sanitary napkins, envelopes, artificial flower making, artificial jewellery making, woolen products. The employees work on all these and are given out in the market for sale and income is generated out of it. The students had an interactive session with everyone in the training unit, they showed a demonstration on sanitary napkin making process, it was very useful.
