Department of Commerce organised a Guest Talk on Profession on Company Secretaries – Surging Ahead for II B.Com PA and I B.Com students on 16/08/2019. The Guest speaker was Dr. Maheswaran Rajagopal, Chairman, ICSI Coimbatore Chapter, Coimbatore.
Dr. Maheswaran Rajagopal is also the Vice President, Finance and Infrastructure, KGISL Group of Companies. He is a faculty for The Institute of Cost Accountants of India and The Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He has rich experience of more than 33 years in various fields such as Materials, Costing, Finance, Accounts, Secretarial, Project Management, Marketing, etc. He received Best Employee Award from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (Former President of India) in the year 2008 and Best Alumini Award from PSG College of Arts and Science in the year 2018.
The session started with a welcome address and Introduction of the Guest by Ms. Sri Samuthrika .S.S, I B.Com. The guest began with an enlightening note emphasizing on the Motto of ICSI “Satyam Vada”, “ Dharmam Chara”. He addressed the students by giving introduction of Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). He expressed the role of Company Secretary as a Key Managerial Personnel such as Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Finance Officer. Company Secretary Course transforms students into modern corporate professionals. Currently 3 Lakhs students enrolled in the CS course. He explained the three levels of ICSI course such as Foundation Programme, Executive Programme and Professional Programme and also the modules under each programme with the training. Lastly he motivates the students with 7 C’s which are important to the students such as Creativity, Communication Skills, Courage , Clarity, Competency, Character and Continuous Learning. The session portrayed a positive picture to develop high calibre CS professionals.
Overall the session was useful and informative. The session was closed with a vote thanks by Ms. Aarthi .G, II B.Com PA. “Career as a Company Secretary is not only prestigious and financially rewarding but also carries with it a high level of job satisfaction”.
