Entering college, my mind was brimming with expectations fuelled by movies and web series that depicted an idealized version of the student experience. The anticipation of making lifelong friends, enjoying a bustling social life while acing exams effortlessly, and the freedom to bunk classes without fretting about attendance was all part of the vision. However, the reality is that college life is a delicate balance of fun, studies, and personal development. Reflecting on my journey so far, I’m delighted to share that my college life has begun on a positive note, creating numerous memorable moments during my first semester.
Expectations vs. Reality: Like many first-year students, I stepped into college with a set of expectations that were largely shaped by on-screen narratives. The desire for close friendships, frequent outings, and academic success while maintaining a carefree attitude were common aspirations. The oft-heard advice from elders to “study hard during your school days and enjoy college life” echoed in my ears. However, the truth is that college life is more nuanced, demanding a harmonious blend of enjoyment and academic commitment.
IGNITE Sessions: A Memorable Start: The first three days of college marked the “IGNITE” sessions, and to this day, they remain as some of my favourite moments. It was during these sessions that I had my initial interactions with my brigade friends and seniors, who proved to be not just guides but also fun and cool companions. While we struggled to remember the various blocks and spots during the campus tour, we’ve now become more familiar with our college surroundings. Nevertheless, surprises still await us as we stumble upon unexplored corners.
Life Between Classes: In the early days, my college routine revolved around classrooms, East Kore, Main Kore, and the beloved Munch Box. Maggi from Munch Box, brownies from East Kore, and biryani from Main Kore became the sustenance that fuelled my days between classes. Despite the initial challenges of navigating the campus, I gradually found my rhythm.
Club Sessions and Musical Escapes: One aspect of college life that consistently brings joy is my involvement in club sessions. As a member of the music club, jamming sessions offer a sense of relaxation and peace, providing the perfect conclusion to a hectic day. Witnessing the live performances of the band Agratha adds another layer of satisfaction, as their energy and talent never fail to impress. These club sessions have become cherished moments that contribute significantly to the fabric of my college memories.
Looking Forward: The first five months have already been filled with laughter, camaraderie, and shared experiences with friends. As I reflect on this initial phase of college life, I eagerly anticipate the opportunities to create more memories in the days ahead. While the cinematic portrayal of college life may not fully align with reality, the authentic moments and connections forged during this journey make it a unique and enriching experience.
