After a year of an enriching journey at KCLAS, I felt a void I couldn’t quite identify. Eager to fill this gap, I explored the myriad opportunities the campus offered. One day, a small poster near the cafeteria caught my eye. Little did I know, this poster would unlock a pivotal phase in my life, brimming with invaluable lessons, supportive peers, and cherished memories.
The poster announced a call for participants in a significant international event—the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. Our college had represented our nation twice before, and I was determined to be part of the team for the third round. My excitement was tempered with a bit of uncertainty; previous teams comprised members solely from KCT, with no representation from KCLAS, my institution. I saw this as a chance to set a new benchmark, break barriers, and inspire future students.
With this resolve, I approached the recruitment for Team Sea Sakthi—a dynamic group of engineers from KCT Garage, known for their innovation and passion. This talented crew had already made a name for themselves by designing and building energy-efficient catamarans, evolving their creation from Yali to Yali 2.0, and Yali 3.0. Their journey was a testament to their skill, determination, and ability to leave a significant mark on the waters, despite having no naval background.
The team managed not only the technical aspects but also the media, marketing, finance, sponsorship, and logistics. This balance of skills inspired me, a liberal arts student, to believe I could contribute to managing the team. After a successful interview, I entered a probation phase to test my skills and capabilities.
During this phase, alongside my fellow recruits, I immersed myself in learning the technicalities and management tasks required by the team. Initially, I struggled to find my footing but gradually adapted. This platform offered me immense learning opportunities, from communication and management skills to leadership and ownership.
I dabbled in various management domains, such as enhancing our social media presence, managing finances, procuring tools for the technical team, and ensuring smooth logistics. Though I started as a novice, I learned a great deal from my peers and teammates, turning the once unfamiliar team into a close-knit family.
Every day after classes at KCLAS, I eagerly headed to my second home, the KCT Garage, to collaborate with the passionate minds of Team Sea Sakthi. Our collective efforts led us to the 11th edition of the prestigious Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, marking our third consecutive year of participation.
Representing our nation on an international stage was an overwhelming and humbling experience. The opportunity to interact with and learn from innovative minds worldwide was invaluable.
Being a part of Team Sea Sakthi has been an incredible journey filled with growth, challenges, and sweet memories. I am eternally grateful for this experience and look forward to many more adventures. This story is far from over.
Team Sea Sakthi, I’m always grateful to be a part! Such an incredible experience and sweet memories to treasure.
I am not concluding as this is never-ending; there’s way more to go and even you can be a part!
