Guest Talk on “An Exploration of Union Budget 2020”
Department of Commerce organised a session on the “An Exploration of Union Budget 2020” on 11th February 2020 at Sir CV Raman hall. The guest speakers were CA. M. S. Nagaraj, M S Nagaraj & Co., Coimbatore and CA. S. P. Srinivasan, Partner, S Krishnan Associates, Coimbatore. The session started with CA. M. S. Nagaraj explaining in detail about the proposed amendments in the direct taxes and its effects on all the taxpayers. He briefly explained about the tax slabs and the difference between the old tax rates and the new tax rates. He illustrated about abolishment of Dividend Distribution Tax (DDT) and its impact on the investors and Company. After his presentation, CA S. P. Srinivasan took over the session. He explained in detail about the effects of budget on the indirect tax, GST. He elaborated on the GST returns and e-invoicing concept introduced in the Budget. The session concluded with the highlights and key takeaways of budget 2020. He completed by saying about the future role of AI and Data analytics in the stream of Finance. The session was moderated by Mr. Vikas Kumar Sahu of II B. Com PA. Students came up with questions like effect of budget on stock market, agriculture and farmer income effects, the prediction of GDP growth to 10% and the effect of the Union Budget on the state budgets. The speakers answered all the questions of the students and the event wound up. The session was coordinated by Ms. Nafeeya Thacin, Mr. Rishi, Ms.Hind Chetwani and Ms. Divya Prabha.
