Department of Commerce organised a Guest Talk on the topic “Branch Accounting” on 7th January 2020 at Sir CV Raman hall. The resource person was CA. P.Balasubramani, Chairman, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India – Coimbatore Chapter. He is also a member of Institute of Company Secretaries of India. Previously, he has held various positions like Treasurer, Secretary and Vice Chairman of Coimbatore branch of SIRC of ICAI.
He started the session by a thought of “Connecting Learning to Life”. He raised the questions, to students as What is branch? Why is branch accounts necessary? He then linked the topic to real life and defined the meaning of Branch accounts. He detailed about the classification of branch accounts with practical examples. He illustrated the methods of Dependent and Independent Branch. The guest also gave an Overview on the Foreign Branches. He explained the Accounting treatment of Branch accounts and encouraged the students to find a solution of the practical problem given by him. He concluded the session with an inspirational story of giving back to society. On the whole, the session was informative. The guest talk was coordinated by Ms.Swathi.M and Ms.Gowripriya.A of II B.Com PA.
